    I've been in Denver for the last couple of years, but only because I have free rent as a house sitter. I'd never live here otherwise. It was a good place to live 20 or 30 years ago. Now it has all the problems of big cities with few of the advantages. It does have beautiful scenery, but that's mostly in the background when you're stuck in all the sprawl. It's now expensive, high crime, lots of homelessness, and too spread out to get anywhere easily.

    The Irish, Italiano, Chicano/Latino communities and roots have been decimated by the developers of “the happy hour of Denver”. History and culture, diversity and community have been erased by promoter$ and investors. It is so very curious that in this video, neither of you mentioned the history and roots of the Upper and Lower Highlands. “Highlands is perfect for dogs.” Seriously? Tear down the houses! Homogenize the neighborhoods! This is the attitude that is making Denver increasingly unavailable and unwelcoming except for “young professionals”. Where do all of us who used to cherish and relish living in Denver, where do we now find affordable housing, history, and culture?

    I live in Holly Hills. I moved from Boston and bought a house in this neighborhood with help of Eli and his associate in 2021. I hadn't been to Denver or Colorado before but I started to shop remotely. I watched videos on this channel and did lots of research online. In 2021 spring, the bidding war in the Denver housing market was insane for popular neighborhoods and decent houses. I had to be flexible and open-minded on my wishlist after lost so many houses in different Denver neighborhoods. I started from South Park Hill but I ended up in Holly HIlls most of people in Denver never heard of (some old folks remember it as a Skyline neighborhood). It is a small portion in Denver. I have a Denver address and use Denver water etc but it is not in Denver County. It is an unincorporated Denver neighborhood that is part of Arapahoe County (along with an even tinier area, Glendale, a little north of Holly Hills). It is also in the Cherry Creek School District for the reason unlike the rest of Denver in Denver County. If you search "Denver" on google map, you will see the 2 "islands" on the map. I'm not sure why Holly Hills has been #1 by Niche for many years. But I'm really happy and feel lucky that I ended up living in this neighborhood. I'm in the block where all the houses were built in 1959. The houses are older and small ranch houses. Just like any neighborhoods and anywhere, some streets have better houses and some, not so much but in general the houses here are just ordinary blue color-ish. What I like about the neighborhood is I feel safe here. There is no through-traffic and no rental or commercial places. People in my street are either retired (they've been living here for many decades) or newly moved in with small children. Like old times, neighborhood kids are playing together in the street until late. Packages left in front of houses, we never worry about. I can go for a walk alone at night with no fear (I'm a woman). There are mature trees as an older neighborhood, Highline bike path and James Bible Park. 6 miles to Cherry Creek State park and 8 miles to Downtown. There is no nightlife here unlike Niche rated. I see "Housing" category got B+ now. I remember it was A before. The houses here became more expensive but still affordable, relatively. There is no house here stands out as an expensive house. It will never be a neighborhoood where people buy a house, tear it down and build a 1M+ house. If someone is looking for a more city-like vibrant and hip neighborhood where you can walk to a cafe or a restaurant or get an ice cream, this is not it. If someone is looking for a quiet, rural and well-groomed neighborhood with more upscale, big and more updated houses with "Wow, I wish I could live here one day" or "I made it" factor, look for Wellshire or Greenwood Village. Holly Hills is an old and affordable small neighborhood where kids and old people feel safe and comfortable living in. Again, I don't know about #1 on the list but this is where I can afford and I'm happy here so that's what really matters. I think affordability and family-friendliness might have brought some neighborhoods to the top.

    Agreed, what a garbage list. South of 70, West of 25, North of Colfax is where you want to be. Easy access to the mountains and to the city, which is the broad appeal of Denver. Also, it's pronounced "Neesh". Good vid though!

    Bullshit. It's 10 years for me. I have a great job, and there is no issue. With all that you see is the past. You now have a very woke government, too LGBT, high crime, high taxes, public transportation very dangerous, you don't want to park your car at the airport, too many drugs, LA traffic, and final -BUMBS PEGGING, AND ILLEGALS PEGGING. The videos are very nice, just like NYC, just an old time.

    Avoid these areas: The ENTIRE city! I moved here in 2000....yes, 24 years ago. The city is getting worse and worse by the day... House prices have been driven up to ridiculous levels! Moving here now... especially buying a home...well, you are going to get left holding the bag. 25% to 50% drop in the next few years is VERY possible. Think Vegas and Phoenix during 2008/2009. If you ABSOLUTELY need to move here: rent! The city officials are letting the city go to crap...this is just the beginning. Don't get stuck! My two cents... even if this advice helps one person: job done! ♥️🙏

Family of 4 & looking at rental sites and finding it confusing bcuz so many places are just for roommate rentals when you get into 3 bedrooms…. Any advice?

    I moved to Colorado (from the east coast) in 1980 at age 12. After the first two months (summertime) I asked my mom, "Is it always going to be sunny here? I don't think I can be sunny and smiley EVERY day!" I moved away at 18 to CA, but came back at 25 and then moved away to a place with even more sunny days at age 45 (El Paso TX). Moved here to Seattle 7 years ago. Was weighing the pros and cons of CO vs WA before I made the jump to Seattle. Definitely feel like the vibe is the same. However, I was looking at getting rid of my car, so ultimately the public transit in Seattle and the more compactness of the city won me over. I am not a homeowner, so that didn't factor in my situation. My family is still in metro Denver and I consider it homebase, for sure. But the weather and access to nature (which includes water and island exploration) is just as good here as Denver. I can take a special city bus directly to trailheads in the mtns. during the summer. And the city has a lot more nature within it. Not having state income tax is also a plus! That being said, seeing the houses behind you, it just screams Colorado and now I need to plan a trip back (haven't been back since 2021).

    It used to take me an hour to two hours sometimes to get from Denver tech center to Denver main hospital during morning traffic between 7-10 am. It used to take over an hour to get down wadsworth and colfax to my school if there was traffic in the morning but without traffic it took 10-15 minutes. I feel like anywhere can take between twenty minutes to an hour or more depending on traffic. One time it took me 3 hours just to get out of the city on the highway during a holiday weekend, so sorry I disagree, traffic can be something you have to plan ahead for.

    • @AlanaJ_888
      @AlanaJ_888 27 днів тому

      Again, I disagree, this was regular everyday morn8ng traffic taking me over an hour to two hours to get somewhere that took twenty minutes later in the day when it wasn’t morning rush hour. You live in Elizabeth not Denver, Denver traffic is real. lol.

    Yea Denver Metro area can be very segregated just like most cities in the USA 🇺🇸 . For example drive down Federal blvd and right about after colfax you will encounter a lot of signage in spanish for many blocks until Evans blvd. And the same examples apply to certain areas in Aurora, montbello area, commerce city etc. Where you will see alot of hispanic stores taco trucks kind of just across the border vibe. And also just recently we just got about 70 thousand new Venezuelan migrants. But don’t worry there is plenty of areas that are mostly completely white folks. There is not much Black African American areas like many other cities. I live in the montbello area that is 70% hispanic.

    Gentrification is happening in the main sections of the city, but there are still programs for low income and the unhoused. Having accessible destination spots in Denver is a win for all the local businesses, so since there's a balance, I see no reason to complain. Also, in the last 3 years, Casa Bonita has had an extreme overhaul and was literally purchased by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I haven't personally been since the reopening a few months ago, but they invested quite a bit in the quality of their menu, which was it's ONLY downfall.
